new 9-1-1 text messaging service is currently available in Iowa

Text 911 is currently being offered in the state of Iowa. It is probably a great idea, but I do believe that these people would much rather call someone that try to text in case of an emergency.
Still, it may be beneficial to many as a lot of people are not able to speak and many of them can also only use their fingers in order to converse with people.
From select wireless subscribers Hawk Consolidated Public Safety Communications Center can receive text messages through this new 9-1-1 text message service.
Thanks for the post! Text 911 sounds like a potentially very beneficial program for Iowa. Hopefully more communities and public safety organizations begin to realize the benefits text message technology can bring. Not only can you make your daily commute more comfortable, but you can actually make your own community safer. At Globaltel Media we've seen a lot of interest in public safety focused SMS alert systems, for both the community and the first responder organizations. With SMS-based technology, departments can communicate much more efficiently with volunteers and off-duty officers, as they do not need to keep track of and lug around complicated pager systems. This is definitely a step in the right direction for Iowa, thanks again!
